Kevin Hutchison
Kevin followed the path to a technology career naturally, as the son of a 30-year IBM veteran. The recipient of a TJ Watson, Jr. scholarship, Kevin spent his college summers working at IBM in Pittsburgh. After college, he began his professional career at Fiserv, developing solutions for large banking systems including Bank of America, Nation’s Bank, and PNC. His determination helped him to quickly move into a management position.

Kevin next joined CoManage, directing a team that developed software to improve network quality by detecting and analyzing errors in telecommunication systems. His clients included AT&T Wireless, Sprint, and British Telecom. Kevin’s work helped CoManage to win industry awards including the 2003 OSS World Best New OSS Product Award, 2003 Communication Solutions Product of the Year, and 2003 Internet Telephony Product of the Year.

His experience and success in telecommunications quality management inspired Kevin’s desire to make an impact in the health surveillance industry. Working at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Kevin collaborated with UPMC to lead a team that moved syndromic surveillance from an academic concept to a real world application. He then formed Health Monitoring Systems alongside Steve DeFrancesco.

As the co-founder of Health Monitoring Systems, Kevin established himself as an industry and media resource for insight and knowledge regarding public health monitoring. He has been asked to speak to the Centers for Disease Control on software development strategies and was an invited speaker incipient to the development of Google Flu Trends.

Kevin was a 2010 and 2014 finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a 2007 Software & Information Industry Association (SIAA) Previews Featured CEO, and a 2007 Pittsburgh Technology Council Rising Star finalist.
